Friday, 16th July 2010 by Emiliano Mellino

Rodrigo, Elías & Medrano Abogados has advised engineering company CB&I in the construction of the Melchorita plant of the Peru LNG project, which launched its first shipment of liquefied gas on 22 June. The legal work involved in the construction of a plant of this type includes corporate, contract, tax, labour, regulatory and litigation matters, as well as advising on the procurement and construction contracts. The construction of the Melchorita plant, the first liquefaction plant in South America, started in 2006. The US$3.8 billion Peru LNG project is not only the largest private sector project in Peru's history, but has also secured the country's largest-ever foreign direct investment, US$2.25 billion.

A wide range of Peruvian and international firms have worked in the financing and execution of this project over the years. They include Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP, Miranda & Amado Abogados, Muñiz Ramírez Pérez-Taiman & Olaya, Estudio Echecopar, Rosselló Abogados - Attorneys at Law, and Estudio Rubio, Leguía, Normand & Asociados
